Layan is known for her fluidity of motion and her natural, Egyptian style; on stage her engaging and charming demeanor dazzles her audiences, who often find her energy quite contagious! She specializes exclusively in improvisation, and is ready to dance in the moment, at any moment.

Layan took her first steps in bellydance in 2008, and having felt an instant connection with the art, has never looked back since. She has studied oriental and folkloric styles with locally and internationally-renowned teachers in Canada, the United States and Egypt, including Dina, Randa Kamel, Aida Nour, Karim Nagi, Zafirah of Montreal and most recently Samantha Burnstein, among others.

Although American in origin, she is an Alexandrian at heart, having lived and studied there extensively. She speaks both Modern Standard and Egyptian Colloquial Arabic, after being inspired to understand the songs of Umm Kalthoum and Mohammed Abdel Wahhab.
